Over the years, more than 4,370,000 candidates had entered the examinations. The HKCEE was conducted in April and May annually and the results were released in August. Since 2007 the results of Chinese Language and English Language had been indicated by five levels (5, 4, 3, 2 and 1), of which level 5 was the highest and level 1 was the lowest.
